Transforming Construction and Demolition Waste into Soft-Soil Treatment for Paving Design

چکیده
Abstract Construction and demolition wastes (CDW) are a concern in urban areas, addition, it is well understood that soft soils inappropriate for paving designs. Therefore, this paper presents an alternative solution combining CDW silty soil, aiming to overcome the soil drawbacks by repeated loadings. For purpose, laboratory study was developed, comprising both resilient modulus (M R ) unconfined compressive strength (UCS) tests over soil-CDW compacted blends, evaluate mechanical properties of proposed stabilization. Also, three compaction efforts (standard, intermediate, modified) curing time up 90 days were used. The UCS blends also measured with identical specimens which resilience carried out. results indicated incorporating (size sand gravel materials) into improves qu M all energies, Resilient Modulus test affects increasing its effect decrease effort. Repeated loads caused specimen's voids whereby density increased and, therefore, q u . Finally, conclude mixtures intermediate effort 40–60% weight potentially applicable pavements compared traditional soil–cement base/subbase.

The construction industry is one of the biggest and most active sectors of the European Union (EU), consuming more raw materials and energy than any other economic activity. Furthermore, construction waste is the commonest waste produced in the EU. Current EU legislation sets out to implement construction and demolition waste (CDW) prevention and recycling measures. However it lacks tools to ac...

Construction activity in Europe has increased substantially in the past decade. Likewise, there has also been a commensurate rise in the generation of construction and demolition waste (C&DW). This, together with the fact that in many European countries the rate of recycling and reuse of C&DW is still quite low has engendered a serious environmental problem and a motivation to develop strategie...

Waste materials are common problem in modern living. Waste accumulates from number of sources including domestic, industrial, commercial, construction and demolition activity. A significant portion of municipality waste is construction related. Proper management of construction and demolition waste is important or else it will get mixed with municipal waste. This type of mixing leads to cutting...
متن کاملThe Efficiency of Hybrid BNN-DWT for Predicting the Construction and Demolition Waste Concrete Strength
The current study focuses on two main goals. First, with the use of construction and demolition (C&D) of building materials, a new aggregate was produced and it was utilized for green concrete production. The compressive strength test confirmed the good function of C&DW aggregate concrete. This concrete did not show significant differences with natural sand concrete. Second, Backpropagation neu...
